Prioritize Your Training Sessions to Build Team, Culture, and Trust

In nearly every session I facilitate, I hear leaders say the same thing: “We need more trust if we want to better collaborate and perform."
But what is trust? Ultimately, it is the byproduct of 4 variables:
- Emotional intensity
- Self-disclosure
- Reciprocity
- Time
The more opportunities organizations and leaders can make to create this, the greater the likelihood that the people in their organizations will trust each other and, in turn, collaborate with each other.
A great place to build it is in training sessions. These are the perfect arenas for emotional intensity, self-disclosure, and reciprocity.
Then, doing them frequently adds the time requirement for trust.
A simple twofold way to do this is to:
Intentionally embed time for networking at the beginning AND build your content around small group conversations and activities.
In a recent training session, a senior leader came up to me and told me that this is exactly how he wanted his training to be.
In fact, in a world where information is free, where learners can simply Google or chatgpt the information available in most trainings, shifting the focus to developing human connection is a strategically great way to go.
