Send a summary of the training session: A small act to enhance impact

A simple yet powerful strategy to enhance learning is to send a post-session summary to the participants.
Last week, I received an email from a participant in a multi-session program I am conducting.
Her message said that she regretted that she would not be able to attend the upcoming session due to illness, however, she was looking forward to the "recap summary".
Her message served as a great reminder to me of the importance of this practice.
For her, she gets a summary of what was covered so she does not feel left behind. For the other learners who attended, it is one more opportunity for exposure to the key points of the course helping to reinforce retention.
For the trainer, it helps you to:
- Reinforce your own learning
- Clarify and organize key takeaways
- Pay closer attention to what themes actually mattered in the room
So - if you want to enhance your impact, and also ensure that people who cannot attend a session don't fall behind - listen and write down the key themes and insight from the session, take photos of the giant post-it notes that the learners do their group work on - then provide it to your learners a few days after the session.
